Health Information Technology
The Mutual encourages the use of electronic health information technologies. Some examples are PDAs with prescription or decision support software, electronic patient records, documentation management and voice recognition dictation systems. A 2% premium credit may be granted for documented use of approved health information technology. The credit may be applied at the time of your policy renewal date and will be effective for 2 years.
You (the insured) need to fully complete and include a "Request for Health Information Technology Premium Credit" form with your next renewal application. This, in turn, is your request and documentation for a 2% premium credit for your utilization of health information technology. (This form may be printed by clicking on the link in the above paragraph or you may secure the form from your agent, if you utilize an agent to work with the Mutual.)
The form will prompt you to describe what technology you are using and explain how you are using it. We also want to know how the technology improves patient safety and decreases your exposure to medical liability.
The Mutual believes in using technology to advance the practice of the art and science of medicine. Technology improves patient safety and efficiencies. Although the Mutual will not endorse a specific product or vendor, we can provide resources to help you define your needs and match them to products. Our resources can also help you objectively evaluate various functions, cost and unique characteristics of each product. The Mutual recognizes that as new technologies are introduced to minimize errors, these technologies will introduce new risks. Please visit our Tips and FAQ sections for discussion of risks and links to articles and resources.
